Suspect Arrested After Series of Shootings Across New Hanover County
New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (NHSO) announced on February 7 that detectives have arrested 22-year-old Nasir Holliday following a multi-agency investigation into two separate shooting incidents that occurred within a 48-hour span. The first incident on February 3 involved over 20 rounds fired into a home on Chair Road in eastern New Hanover County; no one was injured, but the residence sustained significant property damage.
During the two days that followed, Wilmington Police Department (WPD) responded to at least three additional aggravated violent incidents—including a drive-by shooting on Banning Street and a late-night exchange of gunfire near College Road. Investigators linked all shootings through shell casing analyses, identifying that the same .45 caliber rounds were used in each attack. After executing search warrants at two Wilmington residences, law enforcement recovered a stolen Glock pistol fitted with a high-capacity magazine and a homemade “switch” capable of converting the firearm into an automatic weapon. Holliday was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, five counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Sheriff Michael Smith stated that Holliday’s alleged actions “placed countless residents at risk” and praised the joint efforts of WPD and NHSO for swiftly bringing Holliday into custody. “Our priority remains keeping our communities safe, and these arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of cross-agency cooperation,” he said. Both agencies continue to investigate whether any other individuals were complicit in supplying weapons or providing logistical support for the shootings. Holliday is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Detention Facility pending his first court appearance on February 10.
