It’s that time of year again – the Azalea Festival is upon us! Each April, the city of Wilmington gears up for several days of fun featuring favorite local businesses, restaurants, guest performers, and more of the things we appreciate about our location.

This year, before you hop in with that Uber or with the designated driver in your group of friends, read up on some of the most popular events and make sure you don’t miss a thing over the weekend.

Waterfront Street Fair

This myriad of vendors is set up for the entirety of the weekend and features all of your favorite street fair standbys. Presented by Wells Fargo, you’ll be treated to souvenirs and local eats including funnel cakes, honey, hot sauce samples, wine, fresh-made lemonade, and beer.

After Garden Get-Down

Couldn’t make it to the Garden Party? Don’t worry, there’s a dockside After Garden Get-Down from 2-6 p.m. that’s completely free at Bluewater Grill. Take in the waterfront and enjoy a selection of drink and food specials alongside the Queen Azalea!

Riverwalk Shag Contest… on the Banks of the Cape Fear

Venture to the Hilton Wilmington Riverside and see if you’ve got what it takes to dance with the best. And if you don’t think your moves can cut it, there will be demonstrations and line dancing, all leading up to the very first Riverwalk Shag Contest After Party from 7:30-11 p.m.

Festival Finale

While the weekend is coming to an end, experience a final blowout! Back at the Bluewater Grill, the best patio celebration will be in full swing from 4-8 p.m. to send the festival off in style. There will be plenty of eats, drinks and giveaways at this family friendly gathering.

As you enjoy the many wonderful events the festival has to offer, keep in mind that with all of the extra traffic, parking is bound to be rare and your driving time to and from festival attractions will likely be extended from your usual commute. For everyone’s safety, city police will take extra precautions and remain on alert to help out with the influx of festival goers and drivers.

Take your time and pay close attention to signage and traffic laws. Most importantly, Wentz Law Firm encourages all Azalea Festival fans not to drive after too much fun, and stick with your designated drivers! Should you find yourself saddled with a ticket in all of that excitement, or forget to call a ride home when the day is through, contact Wentz Law Firm for representation or legal consultation.
